Saving What I Can: Tiny Plant Experiments


I’ve realized that a lot of my plants don’t survive for very long.

I don’t think it’s because I don’t care. It’s more that I’m still learning, and sometimes I notice too late that something isn’t working. By the time I do, the plant is already struggling.

Recently, I ordered these small rooting containers from Temu. They don’t take up much space and sit nicely on the windowsill, which already helps because I actually see them during the day.

I’ve started rooting cuttings in them — rosemary, basil, and a few others. When a plant looks like it’s not doing well, I try to save it by taking a cutting and giving it another chance. It feels gentler than just throwing the whole plant away.

I like the idea that plants get used to the environments they live in, a bit like people do. Maybe rooting them this way increases their chances. Maybe it just helps me feel less like I’m killing everything I buy.

Either way, it feels like a small step toward keeping more plants alive.
